Out to Sea? The Plastic Garbage Project

Sun May 12th at 2 pm Plastic Ocean guided tour, price included in the entrance fee. Free admission for mothers.


Fri May 17th at 3 pm – 5 pm workshop (make your own statement from pieces of keyboard), free of charge
Sat May 18th at 11 am – 6 pm International Museum Day, free entrance
Sat May 18th at 12 noon – 4 pm SPARK, festival for children and youth, free entrance

12 noon – 4 pm Garbage Animal workshop

Do you have a one-legged Barbie doll lying around, a freezer box that lost its cover, or colourful plastic bags? Bring them along to Spark, they are still useful in building the Garbage Animal. The workshop compiles a collective animal sculpture with useless and thrown-away plastic objects as material. The workshop is part of the Out to Sea? exhibition organised by TR1 Kunsthalle in Cooperation with the Culture Education Unit TAITE and the Rupriikki Media Museum.

1 pm Plastic Breakers

The sea is in distress and needs our help! During the functional museum tour, we follow the journey of plastic from the factory to sea animal food and finally back to our plates. How is plastic produced? Are all objects necessary? What kind of use can you find for a broken bracelet or a cell phone cover?

Age recommendation: 9 to 12.

2:30 pm Operation Northern Fulmar

The sea is in distress and needs our help! During the functional museum tour, we follow the journey of a plastic toy from the factory, the shop, home, and finally to the sea as plastic debris. How is plastic made? Are all objects necessary? Along the way, we learn about sorting, invent environment-friendly outdoor games and help the Fulmar in trouble. This rescue operation will not go unrewarded.

Age recommendation: 6 to 8.

Sun May 19th at 5 pm Film Sunday. Film: Recipes for Disaster

John Webster, director of the film Katastrofin aineksia. gets his wife and two children convinced that the whole family should go on an oil-free diet, not giving up, however, on their middle-class lifestyle. The recipes for disaster are made up of all ordinary things we either leave undone or are forced to do. During their oil-free year, the Websters realise they are questioning their values and put their will power to a test, and finally their happiness as well. Duration of the film: 85 min. Film included in the price of the entrance ticket.

Artist Trading Cards (ATC) are an artistic version of trading cards (baseball, ice hockey etc.). The size of the card is 64 x 89 mm or 6,4 x 8,9 cm.
The cards are either unique or reproduced in very small series. All techniques and materials are available: paintings, drawings, collage, photographs, stamps, mixed techniques among others. One can also make a digital collage. The reverse side of the card is equipped with a signature, date and number, in case the card is part of a series. The principle is that the cards are not sold; only traded.

9 am to 5 pm On the Way to Ecopolis – What are the future of the environment and the environment of the future like? (Green Week event, free of charge).

Turbulent Tampere or Ecopolis? Listen to three scenarios on the future of the environment and join the discussion on how the choices individuals and their society act as road signs on the way to the future. Available at noon, researcher Miia Kinnunen who compiled the scenarios. At 2 pm, Vesa Kärhä, Managing Director of Muoviteollisuus ry (association of plastic manufacturers) and Suomen Uusiomuovi Oy:n (manufacturer of recycled plastic products). Mr. Kärhä’s speech will be about plastic recycling and waste management. Short films and information on sustainable and ethical consumption. The event is organised by Kestävä yhdyskunta (Sustainable Community) unit and TR1 Kunsthalle. Free entrance to the event and the exhibition on World Environment Day, June 5th!

Fri June 7th  at 10 am Professori Kompostiinin Taikakone (Green Week)
A play for children 6 to 8 years old. In the midst of adventure and excitement, children learn about sorting garbage and reducing it. The play’s duration is approx. 40 minutes. Free of charge. The event is reserved for kindergarten groups.

Organised by the Pirkanmaan Jätehuolto waste management company.

My Stuff is about a peculiar human experiment by 26 year old Petri. In the beginning there is a man who feels the hollowness of his life filled with commodities. On the ruins of his slowly developing anxiety he starts a bold project based on four rules: 1) one-year human experiment 2) store all the stuff 3) return no more than one object per day 4) by no stuff. The main character Petri Luukkainen tells more about his human experiment after the film.

Sun June 9th 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm klo 16.30 – 17.30 Petri Luukkainen, director and main character of the film My Stuff, tells about his eccentric human experiment.

Week 24, June 11th – June 16th Toy Recycling Week

Bring your out of use plastic toy to the trading box and choose another one for replacement, if you want. The toy should be intact and clean.
